While Mercedez Benz Fashion Week Australia resort 2020 has only just begun there’s one major beauty trend taking over the runway and already a hit with the front row set. Sure, bouncy waves had their moment but the look du jour of fashion-girls this season is wet-look slicked back hair paired with glossy skin.
As seen at Aje’s opening show, ghd Creative Hair Director Pauline McCabe collaborated with TONI&GUY Hair Director Katy Reeve to achieve a modern style with touches of masculinity contrasted with soft feminine nuances. Katy and Pauline worked together to create a look that encapsulates the feel of the new collection – which is inspired by ‘the land and the sea’. The key to re-creating this style is a strong parting and gentle natural texture through the mid-lengths of the hair.
How-To: Wet Look Slicked Back Hair
Step 1: Blow dry the hair back at the top and sides with ghd air hairdryer and the ghd oval dressing brush.
Step 2: Take the ghd tail comb and add a strong parting from the arch of the eyebrow diagonally back from the face.
Step 3: Depending on the length of the hair, use the ghd curve soft curl tong to give the hair a natural soft ‘s’ bend. This enhances the hair’s natural texture. Use a ‘cool girl’ wave technique, placing the tongs into the mid-length of the hair and wrapping one way then the other in alternate directions. The wave is softened by gliding the tong up and down the hair shaft, enhancing natural texture in the hair.
Step 4: Using a soft bristle brush, push the hair back at the sides and top, pushing this away from the face with a little height and movement.
Step 5: Brush the hair with ghd oval dressing brush. to ensure it looks natural and ‘undone’. Put pin clips in the hair to secure the sides.
“Katy and I wanted to ensure that the hair didn’t feel too ‘overdone’, so it had a very loose, natural feel to it. We had a vision to create hair that was not heavily styled, but instead echoed the inspiration behind the collection with soft, clean textures that complement the natural hair formation,” Pauline McCabe ghd Creative Hair Director said backstage.
