In recent years there have been some questionable trends resurface – Juicy Couture tracksuits very much among them – but perhaps nothing has been more of a shock to the system than the one Bella Hadid just wore down the runway.
For Versace’s Milan Fashion Week Menswear Show, the 22-year-old wore a crystal-embellished black blazer with a matching bikini top, black sparkly pants and none other than a noughties, Christina Aguleira-inspired exposed thong with gold clasps on each hip.
Despite Bella wearing the ensemble for a fashion show, she’s hardly the first to dabble in the daring trend recently.
In 2017, we first saw exposed hip bones and thongs reappear on the runway in shows such as Tom Ford (the very man who first started the trend at Gucci in 1998), Linder and Fenty x Puma, prompting Kim Kardashian to share a vintage Gucci g-string selfie as tribute:
And just a month ago, model Hailey Baldwin took the thong to the biggest fashion event of the year, the Met Gala. In a backless sparkling pink gown, Hailey’s bedazzled underwear was on full display:
