Over the weekend, Versace held its pre-fall 2019 runway show at the New York Stock Exchange, enlisting models such as Gigi Hadid, Kaia Gerber and Irina Shayk to walk the runway and Kim Kardashian, Blake Lively and Ciara to fill the front row.
Despite both Kim and Blake doing their very best to steal the show with their sparkly dresses – Kim’s, an ode to Paris Hilton’s iconic 21st dress and Blake’s, a backless chainmail design – and statement hair, even they couldn’t distract from the finale: a reinvention of the dress Jennifer Lopez wore to the 2000s Grammys, dubbed from that day onwards, the ‘J.Lo Dress.’
Still one of the most talked about moments in red carpet history, the early aughts Versace design featured a plunging neckline, tropical print and waist-high split, held together by an embellished brooch.
2018’s reinvention comes in black with colourful hearts and a red brooch. To debut the look, Donatella Versace enlisted Amber Valletta to close the show, the very same model who wore the 1999 version down the runway almost 10 years ago.
Here’s hoping J.Lo hasn’t yet decided on her outfit for the 2019 Grammys…
