A man who was identified as a “person of interest” in the disappearance of William Tyrrell in 2014, is now facing historical child sex charges dating back to the 1980s.
According to reports, William Harrie Spedding is will front court facing five charges of indecent assault and two of sexual intercourse with a child under 10 years old, reports SMH.
Spedding was famously identified as a “person of interest” in the case of William Tyrell who went missing from his grandmother’s backyard in Kendall, near Port Macquarie, on September 12, 2014.
Spedding, a whitegoods repairman, was questioned over the little boy’s disappearance after he was in touch with William’s grandmother about fixing her washing machine around the time he went missing, reports The Australian.
Police investigations of Spedding discovered nothing relating to the William Tyrell case and he strongly denied any allegations.
“The media have reported that I was supposed to attend the Tyrrell house on the 12th of September, 2014, this being the date of William’s disappearance,” he said in a video he released on YouTube in 2015.
“I wish to make it perfectly clear that the claim is completely false.”
