While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were candid about the proposal (over roast chicken), their first dates, and navigating long distance, the newly engaged couple chose not to reveal exactly who set them up on their blind date.
Speaking to the BBC, in their first joint interview, Harry said of their meeting: “We were introduced, actually, by a mutual friend – we’ll protect her privacy – but it was literally through her and we met once and then twice, back to back, two dates in London last July, beginning of July.”
“And then it was about three, maybe four weeks later that I managed to persuade her to join me in Botswana,” Harry continued.
When quizzed on who the mutual friend is, Markle interjected: “We should protect her privacy and not reveal too much of that.”
Despite the couple’s desire to keep the matter private, the internet, of course, decided to investigate, pinning the royal matchmaker as fashion designer Misha Nonoo.
Misha has dressed Meghan for several occasions – including the Invictus Games, where the actress first stepped out with her prince. The pair also travelled through Europe together last year, just a month after Harry and Meghan first met.
And the Prince Harry link? Misha used to be married to Alexander Gilkes, a friend of Prince Harry and Prince William’s from Eton.
When quizzed about whether the rumours were true, a rep for Misha told People she “will not be discussing anything surrounding her relationship with Meghan.”
