Itโs tough being a white, middle-aged, heterosexual man if Treasurer Scott Morrison and Eddie McGuire are to be believed. This week theyโve both come forward to ostensibly claim victim status.
Yesterday, Morrison claimed that, as an opponent to marriage equality, he had experienced discrimination, telling Radio National: โPeople of very strong religious views, they have also been subject to quite dreadful hate speech and bigotry โฆI know it from personal experience, having been exposed to that sort of hatred and bigotry for the views Iโve taken.โ He made the comments after Senator Penny Wong said in a speech that heterosexual politicians didnโt understand the discrimination faced by LGBTI Australians.
Next, Eddie McGuire told The Age that he feels โemotionally and physically flattened,โ over the criticism he has copped for joking about drowning journalist Caroline Wilson while on radio.
Oh Eddie, oh Scott. Can you hear the tiny violins?
Needless to say, the internet has had a field day with what itโs dubbed #Scomophobia. To which we say: quite right.
