There has been another devastating shooting on US soil, with three officers and a suspect killed in Baton Rouge, Louisiana overnight.
The three officers were killed when a shooter opened fire after police responded to a call of โsuspicious person walking down Airline Highway with an assault rifle,โ reports CNN.
During a press conference, police confirmed the deaths of three offices and as many as seven injured. One suspect was shot at the scene but they believe there is another who is now on the run.
The Baton Rouge police officers have been the target of multiple threats since the death of Alton Sterling following an altercation with police.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards spoke at the press conference following the incident, condemning the shooting.
โThe violence and the hatred just has to stop. These men, risking their lives to protect and serve, were taken out the way they were,โ Edwards said. โThey are the real life, everyday heroes.โ
โThere simply is no place for more violence. We are not going to tolerate more hate and violence tearing apart the families and communities of Louisiana.โ
President Obama has also condemned the attacks, calling the incident a โcowardly and reprehensible assault.โ
โWe as a nation have to be loud and clear that nothing justifies violence against law enforcement,โ he said during a press briefing at the White House. โAttacks on police are an attack on all of us and the rule of law that makes society possible.โ
