They say there’s an app for everything – and now we know it’s true.
Nearly one in three men suffers from premature ejaculation, and now there’s an app to help them overcome the problem.
The idea behind “Pea” is to “train” to gradually last longer.
“Just think of it like training for a race,” Brennen Belich, the app’s founder told Product Hunt. “If you want to be able to run for 30 minutes straight, you wouldn’t train by sprinting for two minutes, getting tired, and giving up.”
Premature ejaculation is actually incredibly common, and is estimated to affect between 20% and 30% of men of all ages.
Discussing the purpose of ‘Pea’ with Product Hunt, the app’s founder Brennen Belich (who has suffered from the condition himself) explained that it’s “…just like training for a race. If you want to be able to run for 30 minutes straight, you wouldn’t train by sprinting for two minutes, getting tired and giving up.”
‘The Doc’, a virtual sexual therapist, helps guide users of the app through masturbating training and personalised behavioural techniques, all-the-while tracking their progress.
The app coaches men to use exercises to strengthen their pelvic muscles, which are aimed at allowing them to exercise control over the timing of their ejaculation.
Dr. Stacy Elliott, a sexual medicine physician who acted as a medical advisor for the app, notes “Behaviour therapy is proven to help men overcome premature ejaculation…Pea gamifies the therapy and keeps you on track when a therapist couldn’t.”
Other treatments for this condition include penile injection therapy, medications such as Viagra and psychological counselling.
The app is available for iOS devices and can be downloaded through the iTunes app store.
