While most of us baulk at the average cost of a wedding in Australia which comes in at over $50k these days, just wait until you hear how much Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could end up spending on their big day.
Granted the interest is a little more heightened for the royal nuptials than us regular folk, but a cool $AU58 million is the figure being thrown around the world wide web today.
According to Bridebook, who calculated the figures using analysis of 170,000 weddings in the UK, the royal wedding is set to cost around £32 million (approximately AU$58 million).
The site broke down all the costs, from catering to alcohol, the dress to the décor, and cited security as the biggest overall expense at AU$54 million.
According to the site:
“Besides the usual snipers on every rooftop and undercover police on the streets, the wedding will be fitted with the latest military technology, including a British counter-UAV system, which will cost at least £1 million [$1.8 million]. The system will be used to deactivate intruders and sneaky paparazzi drones. Add another £1 million [$1.4 million] to the budget for the ‘Drone Destroyer.'”
Meghan’s dress is the second most expensive factor, rumoured to costing around £400,000 ($AU700,000).
According to Page Six, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s big day cost an estimated $AU36 million, so looks like Harry and Meghan are set to exceed that come May 19.
