Good news for Sydneysiders: the City of Sydney is looking at providing free sanitary products in public buildings. If the proposal goes ahead, it would be a first for Australia.
The idea was put forward by Councillor Edward Mandla. “City of Sydney is flush with cash and throws around money like there’s no tomorrow,” he said. “There’s money for everyone and lots of talk about equality. But there’s little in practical leadership solutions”
“Providing free sanitary products is a low cost solution that ought to inspire corporations around Australia to follow suit.”
Specifically, the Council would provide pads and tampons to homeless women, along with women who work in council buildings and women using public sporting facilities.
The motion will be put to a vote on Monday. Stay tuned…
