UPDATE: Carrie Bickmore has apologised for offending anyone with her beanie appeal which was launched on the exact same day as another important annual fundraiser.
The Project host teared up last night, saying, โI wish more than ever that I had waited another few days.โ
Carrie went on to explain that the beanies were supposed to arrive a few weeks ago, and when they finally came she didnโt take note of Neale Daniherโs motor neurone disease campaign โ which also uses beanies to raise money.
โWe both pour our heart and souls into these campaigns and I have been absolutely gutted that anyone would think I would try and derail someone elseโs lifesaving work. I just wouldnโt,โ she said, while fighting back tears.
โWe are all in this together. Thank you everyone for your generosity. Thanks for all your support to both foundations.โ
ORIGINAL: The Project host Carrie Bickmore is being criticised for launching an appeal on the exact same day as another annual fundraiser.
The presenter opened last nightโs episode of The Project speaking about her late husband, who passed away from brain cancer, and a terminal 3-year-old who has been told there isnโt enough funding to find a cure.
To raise money for the cause, Carrie announced she was launching a line of beanies with proceeds going towards brain cancer research.
โIf the governmentโs not going to pour money into it, I will have to,โ she said.
โWe need to give more money to researchers so they can create treatments here, so families arenโt having to go to Mexico to try and save their childโs life!โ
While Carrieโs motivation canโt be faulted, many are questioning why the host chose to launch her appeal on the exact same day as the annual fundraiser for motor neurone disease โ a fundraiser which also uses beanies to raise money.
