The Australian Fashion Industry Sends A Message: #WeSayYES

All you need is love

Love. So simple, yet so profound.

That was the message when the Australian fashion industry came together this morning at Sydney’s Hyde Park to show their support for marriage equality.

Organised by fashion PRs Marie Claude Mallat and Adam Worling, a giant pack of fashionistas descended on the Archibald Fountain, donned T-shirts the colours of the rainbow and posed for a family photo by Hugh Stewart.

Alex Greenwich, the Independent MP who is co-chair of Australian Marriage Equality (and married his husband in Argentina where same sex marriage was made legal in 2010), spoke beautifully about the need for action, flanked by Sydney councillor Jess Scully and newly elected Deputy Lord Mayor Jess Miller.

In attendance were editors from all the monthly glossies, influencers, creatives, designers and fashion business leaders, including, to name just a few: Bianca Spender, Alexandra Smart and Genevieve Smart, Marta Dusseldorp, Graeme Lewsey (CEO of the Melbourne Fashion Festival), and It girls Brooke Testoni, Carmen Hamilton, Tanja Gacic and Talisa Sutton.

“This photo opportunity is designed as a reminder to Australians to get out and vote,” said organisers. “Complacency is a dangerous thing and given that we are mid-way through this campaign, it’s critical to remind people who have not completed their survey, to do so and post it back. Every completed survey counts!”

At marie claire, we say #voteyes.
