Netball-lovers, this one’s for you.
Netball Australia has just scored a revolutionary TV deal, securing live and primetime exposure on free-to-air TV.
“This is the most significant broadcasting rights agreement in the history of Australian women’s sport,” said Kate Palmer, Chief Executive of Netball Australia.
The five-year broadcasting agreement with Channel Nine and Telstra means a massive boost for the national netball scene, however it also marks the end of the current ANZ Championship format.
“In the future, this day will be regarded as the beginning of full professionalism in Australian netball,” Palmer said
The 2017 season will see an all-Australian league with three brand-new teams joining the existing five. It is believed that the Collingwood Magpies are behind one team, while NRL’s Melbourne Storm will back another, and the third will be a joint venture between Netball NSW and the Greater Western Sydney AFL club.
