Sofia Vergara Lawsuit With Ex Over Embryos Gets Ugly

The case takes a shocking turn.

Sofia Vergara and ex fiancé Nick Loeb are embroiled in a bitter legal dispute over frozen embryos the couple had created when they were together.

Vergara, who is now married to actor Joe Manganiello, wants the embyros to remain frozen, but Loeb is fighting for the right to have them implanted in a surrogate so he can raise the children himself. Loeb filed the suit in 2014 after the couple split.

Now however it seems the case has taken an upsetting turn, with a judge ruling that Loeb must name two former exes who underwent abortions when they were in relationships with him.

Vergara’s team claim this will prove who had opportunities to be a father in the past and didn’t pursue them. He claims the abortions were against his will.

Loeb appealed the decision arguing that due to the high-profile nature of the case, it is likely those names will be revealed, but the Court of Appeals has upheld the request.

“I would rather go to jail than reveal the names. I believe we have to protect a woman’s right to privacy,” Loeb told Page Six.

“Could you imagine if you had moved on with your life, gotten married and had children and kept this a secret from your family, then all of a sudden 15 years later (you were) made to reveal your abortion to the world. Maybe your parents never knew, maybe your husband never knew, nor your children,” Loeb added to The News

The Modern Family star’s lawyer, Fred Silberberg says the women’s names will be protected under privacy laws and says Loeb’s argument of a “woman’s right to privacy” contradicts his case against Vergara.

“Oddly, Loeb wants us to believe that he supports a woman’s right to privacy, and to make a choice concerning reproduction. However, he seems to believe that his celebrity ex-fiancé, Sofia Vergara, does not have those same rights,” Silberberg told The News

“In the course of discovery undertaken to defend against Loeb’s claims, Loeb, while claiming to be in support of the ‘right to life,’ disclosed that he had gotten two different women pregnant prior to his relationship with Vergara and that the pregnancies were terminated,” Silberberg said.
