It’s official: Selena Gomez and The Weeknd (nee Abel Tesfaye) have broken up, following a week of speculation after the singer was spotted with her ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber.
Multiple sources have confirmed the split, however, they say it’s more to do with the pair’s busy work schedules than Bieber.
“She and Abel have been going back and forth for a few months about their relationship,” an insider told People. “It’s been hard with him being on tour and her shooting in New York. That wasn’t easy on them.”
“It’s been hard for them to come to the realisation that this is the direction things were heading, but it’s been hard for months,” the insider continued, adding that Gomez is not back together with her ex Justin Bieber.
The Weeknd seemingly confirmed the split in his own way yesterday, unfollowing some of Gomez’s closest friends on Instagram, including her mother, her assistant, and her best friend/kidney transplant donor Francia Raisa.
He also unfollowed Priscilla DeLeon and Jay Cosme – parents of Selena’s godson.
Selena and Abel still follow each other on the platform for now, but with more and more Bieber meetings we’re not sure it’ll stay that way for long.
