Scarlett Johansson Tells James Franco She Wants Her Time’s Up Pin Back

During her Women's March speech

Over the weekend, protesters took to the streets all around the world – from Sydney to New York – to support equal rights for women, protest against sexual harassment and assault, and to send a message to Donald Trump that his policies on birth control and immigration won’t be tolerated.

As in 2017, celebrities took to the stage to address crowds, speaking of their own experiences of sexual misconduct and struggles with inequality.

In Los Angeles, Scarlett Johansson started her speech by thanking the women who helped organise both the women’s march and the Time’s Up movement, before saying: “How could a person publicly stand by an organisation that helps to provide support for victims of sexual assault while privately preying on people who have no power?”

The actress then paused and said: “I want my pin back, by the way.”

Many assumed Johansson was talking about James Franco, who wore a Time’s Up pin to the Golden Globes where he won Best Actor, before being accused of sexual misconduct by multiple women in the days that followed.

A Johansson rep later confirmed to the Los Angeles Times that this comment was, indeed, directed at Franco.

However, some are accusing Johansson of hypocrisy for having previously worked in three Woody Allen films – 2005’s Match Point, 2006’s Scoop and Vicky Cristina Barcelona in 2014.
