Though nobody knows the show like its legendary protagonist Sarah Jessica Parker who recently revealed a theory about the cult series which is so wild, we couldn’t help but wonder: can we really call ourselves fans?

During a recent interview with news.com.au, the 54-year-old actress suggested that perhaps Carrie’s iconic bunch of friends – Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), Samantha (Kim Cattrall) and Charlotte (Kirstin Davis) – didn’t actually exist at all.

Erm, excuse me?

“Sometimes I’m like, we don’t even know if Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte were real,” the silver screen star revealed. “Sometimes I’m like, hmmm, just to mess with myself. Think about it: did Carrie make them up? She’s telling a story every week. This is her point of view, it’s almost always her point of view.”
“Think about it,” she continued. “Did Carrie make them up?”

The reason behind her claims?

The final season of the hit show sees Carrie move to Paris to embark upon a relationship with artist Aleksandr Petrovsky and interestingly, she leaves her laptop back in New York. Sarah Jessica Parker points out that this could be the “conduit” in which her friends exist through.

“When Carrie went to Paris and left her computer, for the first time Carrie wasn’t telling the story. In the entire run of the series, if you think about it for a second, right?” she continues. “She left her computer which was the conduit (through) which the audiences knows about Charlotte, Miranda… Samantha.”

“These friendships, real or not real, as described were beyond a source of joy and a connection and a way of relating, they were a necessity.”

Thankfully, the actress recently redeemed herself after almost destroying our not-so-guilty reruns of the show every weekend earlier this week after paying fashion homage to Carrie on Instagram.

Decked in logo-emblazoned Gucci socks, a checked Off White blazer and bejewelled shoes Carrie would likely drool over – Sarah Jessica Parker sparked nostalgia for fans across the globe.

The Hollywood heavyweight penned a caption we couldn’t help but read in Bradshaw’s now-famous narrator drawl too, as she wrote: “Sunglasses, check. Borrowed coat, bag and dress, check. Old socks, check. @sjpcollection Celine in Taupe Satin, check. Off to my second day with the brilliant, amazing women of @businesschicks in Melbourne. X, Sj.”

We guess we’ll just have to stick on a cheeky episode when we get home to find out whether or not she’s right about this whole ridiculous theory, right?
