Actor Ryan Phillippe is being sued for $1.25 million after allegedly physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend while drunk and on drugs.
21-year-old Elsie Hewitt says Phillippe, 43, punched and kicked her, before throwing her down a flight of stairs in his Los Angeles home on July 3, The New York Post reports.
“He grabbed Hewitt’s upper arm so tightly that his grip left heavy bruises on her arm hours later. He then braced his body and violently threw her down his staircase as hard as he could,” she claims in court documents obtained by The Blast.
Hewitt was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre after the alleged incident, where police noted “visible injuries to her legs, back, arms, shoulder and face”, USA Today reports.
Police filed a report and granted the model a temporary emergency restraining order against Phillippe, though the actor wasn’t arrested and no charges were filed against him.
Phillippe, who shares two children with his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon, has since taken to Twitter to deny the accusations, claiming he’s “saddened and disgusted” and that the claims are made up for “monetary gain.”
Hewitt is denying the allegations having anything to do with money, saying any profits will be donated.
“Ms Hewitt filed this case for all those women who have been abused,” her lawyer, Keith Fink, told The New York Post. “Such conduct is intolerable. Neither she nor I seek any money in this case and any money awarded will be donated to a battered women society.”
