In September it was reported that American model Elsie Hewitt is suing Ryan Phillippe, her ex-boyfriend, to the tune of $US 1 million after he allegedly physically assaulted her in his home, punching and kicking her and throwing her down a flight of stairs.
But now Phillippe, 43, is fighting back, with plans to sue 21-year-old Hewitt for trying to extort money and gain fame from her lawsuit against him.
People has obtained court documents pertaining to Phillippe’s lawsuit, in which he claims Hewitt “fabricated a story in an unjustified attempt to extort money” and “broke into Phillippe’s home in the middle of the night without permission.”
Hewitt was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre after the alleged incident in July, where police noted “visible injuries to her legs, back, arms, shoulder and face”, USA Today reports.
Police granted the model a temporary emergency restraining order against Phillippe, though the actor wasn’t arrested and no charges were filed against him.
Philippe’s suit also states that the actor “was raised by women in a household where women’s rights, feminism, and advocacy were very much at the forefront, and he is sickened to have been falsely accused of domestic violence.”
Phillippe, who shares two children with his ex-wife Reese Witherspoon, took to Twitter this week with the below message:
