Ruby Rose is known for her iconic androgynous look, and has spoken out in the past about โgender-fluidityโ and expression of gender through fashion. However in a recent interview, she opens up about growing up identifying more with boys and eventually coming to terms with her womanhood.
The 30-year-old Orange Is The New Black actress spoke to The Edit in an interview on the topic.
โAll I wanted was a boyโs name growing up โ Charlie, Billie, Max, Frankie.โ she said. โYou just know my mum wanted a girly girl princess!โ

She said that she had always felt different growing up, and noticed that she felt more comfortable around boys than girls.
โEveryone had Barbies; I had ninja turtles and Supermanโฆ I was crazy about Archie comics. I played footie with the boys.โ
She went through a period where she felt that she had been born into the wrong body, and cut her hair off and bound her chest. She looked up to androgynous figures like David Bowie and Annie Lennox, and made a short film about gender-fluidity and her transformation, called Break Free.
But now she has come to terms with being a woman, and is happy she didnโt opt for surgery.
โIโm a woman,โ she says. โI want to have babies one day, so Iโm glad I didnโt make changes earlier in my life.โ
Ruby Roseโs latest project is xXx: The Return Of Xander Cage, in cinemas now.
