Overnight, it was announced that Prince Harry is engaged to Meghan Markle and that their royal wedding is taking place next year.
Soon after the news, the happy couple posed for photos, revealing Meghan’s stunning engagement ring.
Meghan wore a white coat over a dark green knee-length dress, which she paired with nude strappy heels. The Prince looked dapper in a navvy blue suit as he strolled arm-in-arm with his bride-to-be.
Meghan said she was feeling “so happy,” while Harry was “thrilled” and “glad it’s not raining.”
Harry and Meghan later sat down with BBC News for a televised interview that aired Monday evening in the the U.K. where they revealed how the proposal transpired.
“It happened a few weeks ago, earlier this month, here at our cottage; just a standard typical night for us. Roasting a chicken … trying to roast a chicken,” Harry joked.
“She didn’t even let me finish, she said, ‘Can I say yes? Can I say yes?’” he explained. “And then were was hugs and I had the ring in my finger and I was like, ‘Can I—can I give you the ring?’ She goes, ‘Oh yes, the ring.’”
“It was a really nice moment, it was just the two of us and I think managed to catch her by surprise as well,” Harry said.
“Yes, it was just a cozy night … I could barely let you finish proposing,” Markle replied. “Just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.”
The royal couple also revealed that they were set up on a “blind date” by a mutual friend about 18 months ago. Harry said he had never heard about Meghan or seen her hit TV show Suits.
“I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her. There she was sitting there and I was like, ‘OK, well I’m going to have to up my game’,” he said.
Meghan said didn’t learn about Prince Harry through the media, she learnt about him “through him”.
“Because in the States you don’t grow up with the same understanding of the royal family and so, while I now understand very clearly there’s a global interest there, I didn’t know much about him and so the only thing that I had asked her when she said she wanted to set us up was one question: Was he nice?” she said.
We’re not crying, you are.
