It’s an exciting day for Big Little Lies fans because Reese Witherspoon has hinted at the possibility of the hit show returning for a second season.
The immensely popular series, which finished airing in April, featured a stand-out cast, including Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Alexander Skarsgard, Zoe Kravitz, Laura Dern, Shailene Woodley and Elle Fanning.
It was adapted from the best-selling book by Australian writer Liane Moriarty, which follows a group of parents in Monterey, California and the drama – or more specifically, unsolved murder – in their lives.
While there has been much speculation the HBO series would return this seems like the closest we’ve gotten to an official confirmation.
Witherspoon took to Instagram yesterday to post a photo of herself and two of the other lead actresses, Kidman and Dern, with the caption, “Spending #SundayFunday with these ladies…working on some new lies.”
Reese’s 9.7m followers were quick to conclude that she was hinting at the filming of more BLL episodes, saying things like, “Yay!!!! It’s coming back? Thank Goodness!!!!!” and, “Overjoyed!!!! just finished the book i was so bummed when the series ended had to keep it going.”
However, E! News reports, “the photo has nothing to do with a follow-up up season. Rather, the three actresses were simply doing a photo shoot together.”
That doesn’t explain why Reese would put “working on some new lies” in the caption though, so we’re still firmly holding hope.
Especially given the famous cast have each said on multiple occasions that they’re open to the idea of extending the franchise with the help of Liane Moriarty.
