What do you do when a famous make up artist asks you to do her make up? You grab a Tom Ford eye shadow palette and get to it.
At least, that’s what comedian Tanya Hennessy did when Rae Morris approached her for a collaboration.
“Her face was beautiful and I was like I’m going to literally destroy this, I was shaking and sweating, I was so nervous because she’s so renowned, I’ve never been that nervous filming a tutorial with anyone before,” Hennesy said.
The result?
“I think she was disturbed because I had not blended the contour in, I had not blended anything out, I got her makeup colour wrong and I put too much primer on. I’m the shittest makeup artist, but I think she likes that I’m just taking the piss and its her profession.”
It’s hard to tell from the video, but Hennessy isn’t a professional make up artist. She’s a comedian with almost one millions followers on Facebook whose videos have been viewed over 150 million times.
“I have to pinch myself every single day because I’m so fortunate to do what I do and to have an audience that wants it – it makes me feel like maybe I’m on the right track.”
Hennessy is a natural in front of the camera, but it was certainly not easy to get to where she is today, “I went to 150 castings and got none but even in my hardest times I kept pushing on because when you have an audience it’s so exciting because it’s proof to me that you were right to keep fighting for what you loved.”
Her best piece of advice? Genuine passion gets you through tough times. If in doubt, make like Nike and: “Just do it.”
As for what’s next for one of Australia’s biggest online comedians… We can expect more hilariously relatable videos and possible collaborations with the likes of Broad City or Chris Lilley. Stay tuned.
