While hosting an afternoon event at Kensington Palace for The Diana Award, Prince William revealed the simple way he’s teaching his young children about gender equality.
Speaking to 14-year-old Olivia Hancock, who received recognition for her work promoting equality between the sexes in football, the Duke of Cambridge said he often plays football with Prince George, 6, and Princess Charlotte, 4, and that he’s sure to make it clear to his son that Charlotte could be as good – or better – at football than him.
Hancock recalled the conversation to reporters, saying, ‘When I was chatting with Prince William he said to me, when he plays football with George and Charlotte, when Charlotte’s in goal George says to her that “Charlotte I’m better than you.”‘
When George teases his sister like this, Prince William said that he reponds by making it clear, ‘”Charlotte could be as good as you”‘.
‘It’s great to hear that Prince William is saying that to George,’ the teen added.
Though Kate and William haven’t been too vocal about their feminist views in the past, likely due to strict royal guidelines when it comes to discussing political and social views for the future king and queen of England, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a looser leash and often discuss women’s rights and equality.
Most recently, the couple made a joint appearance to talk about how equality can’t happen without the involvment of men.
Of course, it pays to note that Princess Charlotte is the first royal woman who has been able to keep her place in line to the British throne despite having a younger brother. Charlotte is fourth in line to the throne, while Prince Louis is fifth and Prince Harry is sixth.
