Prince Phillip has been admitted to hospital and is currently being treated for an infection.
According to a Buckingham Palace spokesperson, The Duke of Edinburgh becoming unwell at Windsor and was admitted to the King Edward VII hospital in London after he appeared at Royal Ascot.
The 96-year-old did not arrive to the hospital by ambulance, but travelled by car alongside his personal protection officer during the evening.
“Prince Philip is in good spirits and is disappointed to be missing the state opening of parliament and Royal Ascot.”
As a result, his wife, The Queen attended the state opening of parliament with her son the Prince of Wales. The royal spokesperson insists The Queen is “fully informed” and will continue her plans to attend Royal Ascot following her delivery of the Queen’s speech at the Houses of Parliament.
In the past, Prince Philip has been admitted to hospital for a bladder infection, and for abdominal investigations.
