For those loyal enough to follow along with every odd royal news story that pops up, you may have caught back in January a telling tale of Prince George nicknaming himself ‘Archie’. Cut to five months later and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced their newborn son’s name as Archie Harrison. Coincidence? Not likely.
After Prince George reportedly approached a woman in a park in January alongside grandmother Carole Middleton, he gleefully called himself ‘Archie’. The woman told The Sun at the time: “Just to be friendly, I engaged in a bit of small talk, and I asked George what his name was, even though obviously I knew it. To my astonishment, he said, ‘I’m called Archie,’ with a big smile on his face. I don’t know why he calls himself Archie, but kids often play with their names, and I think it’s lovely.”

While Archie may very well have been George’s nickname, the more likely scenario is that George cheekily overheard his parents talking about the name.
The Royals are no strangers to nicknames (Prince Harry‘s real name is Henry and Kate Middleton‘s full name is Catherine) — and Princess Charlotte has a sweet moniker at home: Lottie.
The newborn Archie was born Monday and made his public debut Wednesday with his proud parents at St. George’s Hall in Windsor Castle.

“It’s magic. It’s pretty amazing,” Meghan said of being a first-time mom. “I have the two best guys in the world, so I’m really happy.”
