The bond between the future King of England and his now daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle, was displayed for all to see at the royal wedding, when he was chosen to walk Prince Harry’s bride down the aisle.
Now further proof of their closeness has come to us via the Daily Mail, which has revealed Prince Charles’ nickname for the Duchess of Sussex – and it’s nothing if not odd.
According to the Daily Mail’s source, Prince Charles calls Ms Markle ‘Tungsten’, after a type of metal with characteristics he believes his daughter-in-law possesses.
Tungsten, apparently, is “tough and unbending”.
“Prince Charles admires Meghan for her strength and the backbone she gives Harry, who needs a tungsten-type figure in his life as he can be a bit of a softy,” the source says, clarifying, “It’s become a term of endearment.”
Guess we’ll just have to take their word for it.
