With her highly-anticipated debut as Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown set to grace Netflix in a matter of weeks, it was only right that Buckingham Palace bow down to Hollywood’s new monarch.

Yesterday, Colman received a CBE for her services to drama – a royal honour just one step away from knighthood.

For the occasion, the 45-year-old actress chose a bespoke Emilia Wickstead coat aptly named the ‘Prince of Wales’ which boasted a monochrome check and dramatic bell sleeves.

urther demonstrating her newfound regal style, she finished the ensemble with a pillbox hat – a sartorial recipe the Duchess of Sussex would approve of.

Binge-watchers of the show will be disheartened to learn that Her Majesty was not on hand to present the honour – a not-so-coincidental move by the Windsor clan in our opinion.

Instead, Princess Anne took on the duty which was sure to prove just as daunting for Colman with Erin Doherty playing the royal in the forthcoming season.

In the next installment of the drama series, Colman will step into Claire Foy’s shiny block heels as Queen Elizabeth II while Tobias Menzes steals Matt Smith’s crown in the role of Prince Philip.

The upcoming season will see Buckingham Palace ride the turbulent political times of the ’60s and ’70s, as the country “falls apart” in the words of Colman.

Ahead of her 1977 Silver Jubilee, the Queen fears losing popularity as footage of the miners’ strikes and famous aftermath of the Aberfan disaster of 1966 unfolds in the new season trailer.

Throw in the appointment of Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson and The Firm are quaking beneath all the pomp and pageantry.

Perhaps the royals should have waited to tune in before waxing lyrical about Colman…
