But perhaps none more so than the domestic abuse Nicole’s character Celeste suffered at the hand’s of her husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgard).

During The Hollywood Reporter‘s roundtable interview, the Australian actress described the emotional toll enduring those scenes had on her.

“I remember lying on the floor in the last episode, being in my underwear and having just been really thrown around,” Kidman recalled.

“I just lay on the floor. I couldn’t get up. I didn’t want to get up. And I remember Jean-Marc [Vallée, the show’s director] coming over and putting a towel over me in between the takes because I was just like…I just felt completely humiliated and devastated. And angry inside.”

“I went home and I threw a rock through a glass door,” she said, saying it was due to “obviously holding all that rage” from the scene.

Reese Witherspoon, Nicole’s co-star on Big Little Lies, recalled the incident saying: “We were staying at a hotel, and she called me and she says, ‘I’ve just done the craziest thing,'”

“She got home from work and she had one of these horrible scenes, and she goes, ‘I couldn’t get into my hotel room so I threw a rock through the window.’ And she goes, ‘I don’t do stuff like that.'”

Besides being emotionally drained, Kidman has also spoken out about the physical pain that shooting those abuse scenes caused.

“I didn’t realise how much of it penetrated me,” she told Vogue. “I would go home at night sometimes and be in a lot of pain, and I had to take things like Advil, because I was being thrown around physically. I was really bruised.”

Despite huge success and popularity, Nicole also confirmed in a recent interview that Big Little Lies, unfortunately, won’t be back for a second season.
