The compelling true-crime miniseries The Staircase first aired in France in 2004, and will find a new home on Netflix—along with brand new episodes—next month.

The documentary tells the story of crime novelist Michael Peterson who was accused of murdering his wife Kathleen after her body was found at the bottom of a staircase in their home. Peterson’s arrest sparked a 16-year legal battle; many questions remain unanswered to this day.

New episodes of The Staircase are produced and directed by Academy-award winner Jean-Xavier de Lestrade, 17-years on from his original series.
