Netflix’s ‘Girlboss’ Is Finally Out And We’re Already Obsessed

The series is based on Nasty Gal's founder, Sophia Amoruso.

Overnight, the much-anticipated new Netflix original series Girlboss was released to the world. And we’ll admit it: we’re already hooked.

The comedy was supposed to be “loosely” based on the life of Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso, but as the show got closer and closer to release, it became clear that “loosly” was more like “almost 100%”, if you – you know – pretend the company didn’t file for bankruptcy late last year.

Now, we don’t want to give away any spoilers just yet – we’ll give you at least the weekend to get up to speed – but if you haven’t heard much about the show, it focuses on Amoruso’s early years as a dumpster diving, thrift shopping 22-year-old who started selling vintage clothes on eBay.

The new Netflix series is based on Nasty Gal Founder Sophia Amoruso’s book of the same name.

“You know how people flip houses? Well I flip clothes,” says lead actress Britt Robertson as a young Sophia.

By 27, Amoruso had turned “clothes flipping” into the multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal.

While, as we briefly mentioned earlier, Amoruso may have filed for bankruptcy last year, the Netflix series focuses on her path to becoming an entrepreneur extraordinaire.

Created by Kay Cannon (Pitch Perfect) and produced by Charlize Theron, Laverne McKinnon, Christian Ditter (How To Be Single) and Amoruso herself, the show is a true testament to girl bosses.

“I was really starving to create a story about a woman,” said Cannon at a panel in New York earlier this year.
