All the other cast members you know and love โ Claire Foyโs Queen Elizabeth, Matt Smithโs Prince Philip, Vanessa Kirbyโs Princess Margaret โ will be back for season two, however sadly it has been confirmed they will be replaced for season three, making way for a brand new cast.
Foy, the showโs star, broke the news to New York magazine, saying โAfter two season, thatโs it, Iโm gone. I donโt [know] how theyโre planning on doing it, but theyโre such an incredible bunch of directors and producers that itโs gonna be different and exciting.โ
Itโs part of Netflixโs six year plan for the royal drama, exploring different decades in the life of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip. Because of the scope of the series, covering sixty years in the life of the royal family, the casting will need to change.
Itโs not because fans havenโt fallen in love with the stars. The show recently scored three Golden Globe nominations, including one for Foy and John Lithgow for Best Supporting Actor. (The pair also were nominated for Screen Actors Guild Awards).
