The MTV VMAs are in full swing and this year celebrities are using the stage to speak out about important topics.
First, Paris Jackson delivered a powerful political speech, urging Americans to stand together against racism.
Then Pink spoke about people’s perceptions of beauty, revealing that her 6-year-old daughter had told her she felt ugly, saying, “I look like a boy with long hair.”
But the moment that had the entire audience in tears was when Kesha took the stage to talk about suicide and depression.
“The truth is piercing and the truth is what matters,” the singer who has revealed her struggles with depression and anxiety in the past, alluding to her sexual assault case against her former producer.
“And the truth is, none of us are alone,” she continued.
“It takes great courage to show the vulnerable side of being human.”
“We all have struggles and as long as you never give up on yourself light will break through the darkness,” she said, as she introduced Logic’s performance, which featured Alessia Cara and Khalid, while people who had survived suicide attempts took to the stage with the suicide prevention hotline number printed on their t-shirts.
“The national suicide prevention lifeline is available to you if you’re in crisis or concerned about someone who might be,” Kesha told the audience.
