5 Of The Most Insane Things US Politicians Have Actually Said This Week

The race to 2020 is on

Every week, there seems to be a new, even more, outrageous moment from US President Donald Trump. It seems this week was no different. At the start of the week, Trump took aim at four new congresswomen known as ‘The Squad’ – Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Ayanna Pressley – and his comments were not taken lightly by the voting public.

But, it’s not just Trump that is making headlines this week for making…questionable comments. Below, some of the most outrageous quotes from American politicians and associates made this week.

President Trump Told Four Congresswomen To “Go Back Where They Came From”

President Trump took to Twitter on Sunday to seemingly criticise four freshmen congresswomen. “So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly…..,” he wrote in one tweet before adding, “and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run.”

He followed up by suggesting that “they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.”

A white congressman referred to himself as a “person of colour”

Following Trump’s Twitter rant, several politicians decided to put their two cents in, including Rep. Mike Kelly who made an ill-advised comment that he considers himself a person of colour. “You know, they talk about people of colour. I’m a person of colour. I’m white,” he told Vice News. “I’m an Anglo Saxon. People say things all the time, but I don’t get offended.”

A congressman said four Democratic congresswomen are the reason shampoo bottles “have directions”

Senator John Kennedy came to President Trump’s defence and said he didn’t believe the comments were racist. Speaking to Fox News’ Tucker Carlson, Kennedy said the four congresswomen are “entitled to their opinion”. He said, “They’re Americans. But I’m entitled to my opinion, and I just think they’re left-wing cracks, and they’re the reason there are directions on a shampoo bottle. I think we should ignore them.”

The same congressman then proceeded to call those congresswomen “horsewomen”

Sen. John Kennedy’s criticism of Rep. Rashida Tlaib, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Ayanna Pressley didn’t stop there, he even went as far as to call the women “the four horsewomen of the apocalypse” and added that “they’re entitled to their opinion. But I’m entitled to say that they’re whack jobs.”

Kellyanne Conway asked a reporter “What’s your ethnicity?”

During a press conference earlier this week, counsellor to the Presiden Kellyanne Conway was asked what Trump meant when he told the four congresswomen to “go back” to where they came from. “What’s your ethnicity?” she asked the reporter, instead of answering his question. When the reporter told her his ethnicity wasn’t relevant to the question, she went on a rant, saying “a lot of us are sick and tired in this country of America coming last.” She also attacked “a bunch of Hollywood D-listers who have nothing else to do but sit on their asses on Twitter all day.”
