The royals have no shortage of cute kids who love to steal the spotlight. The British royal family has Prince George and Princess Charlotte (and once they’re older, we’re sure Prince Louis and Archie will quickly learn how to work a crowd), and in Monaco, they have four-year-old twins, Jacques and Gabriella.
Yesterday, Monaco celebrated National Day – an annual event where the entire assembled royal family greet their citizens. Waving from the palace balcony, Monaco’s Prince Albert and Princess Charlene’s royal twins stole the show in their adorable outfits.
For the first time, Prince Jacques wore a uniform. “Yes, he’s being outfitted this year,” Prince Albert told People ahead of the event. “I think they still have one fitting to do but he’ll be in a uniform. And that’ll be great fun,” he added. To complete his regal look, Jacques wore a red, white and blue helmet.
His twin sister, Princess Gabriella, wore a bright red ensemble with a bold blue jacket over the top and a red beret. “[Gabriella] has outgrown her little Monegasque outfit, and I’m not certain whether the new one will be ready in time — but she’ll be very elegant though,” Albert said in the interview.
Waving flags, giggling and blowing kisses, it’s hard to believe Princess Gabriella is typically shy. “It’s funny,” said her father. “There are some moments now where she adores the camera and some moments where she shies away completely, where she says, ‘No, no more photos’. And she kinds of turns away or turns a grumpy face. You kind of have to catch her in a good mood.”
The twins weren’t the only well-dressed royals on the day. The entire Monaco entourage looked stylish, especially Princess Charlene, who was dressed in an all-white outfit, including a fedora.
The Monaco royal family is rapidly growing, and Prince Albert joked with People that room is tight on the balcony nowadays.
“We’re running out of space for everyone,” he said. “We’re going to have to create new windows, build new balconies.”
Since last year’s National Day event, the royal family has celebrated two weddings — Albert’s niece Charlotte Casiraghi and nephew Louis Ducruet — and three christenings.
“I don’t think I can face up to another christening or wedding right now,” joked Prince Albert, adding, “Actually, it’s great feeling to have that many new members of the family and everybody seems to get along well.”
