Speaking at the Democratic Convention, the First Lady threw her support behind Hillary Clinton for president, saying that she had the “guts and grace to keep coming back and putting those cracks in the highest and hardest glass ceiling until they finally break through, lifting all of us along with her”.

“Hillary Clinton has never quit on anything in her life. And when I think about the kind of president I want for my girls and all our children, that is what I want”.

But the most powerful moment arguably came when Mrs Obama told the audience, “I wake up every morning in a house that was built by slaves. And I watch my daughters, two beautiful, intelligent, black young women, playing with their dogs on the White House lawn.

“And because of Hillary Clinton, my daughters and all our sons and daughters now take for granted that a woman can be president of the United States.”
