Melbourne University has announced that they will be installing dozens of ‘all-gender’ toilets on campus to align with federal gender equality rules.
Note, this does not mean that all their toilets on campus will be becoming all-gender, just the new ones they are installing.
A spokesperson from Melbourne University told the Herald Sun that it would start on one campus and expand to others soon.
“The University is in the midst of allocating 37 all-gender toilets across the Parkville campus. This initiative will be expanded to our other campuses in due course.”
The idea behind this initiative is to provide options for people who do not feel comfortable using the single gender toilets, to help make all people on campus feel safe.
The change comes as part of the university’s requirements under the Australian Government Guidelines on the Recognition of Sex and Gender.
