A Melbourne mother has pleaded guilty to helping her nephew, with whom she was in a sexual relationship, rape her 12-year-old daughter.
The 55-year-old woman appeared in court where it was revealed that the young girl says she was crying and pleading for her cousin to stop and her mother held her daughter’s leg for a better view.
The man, 42, also pleaded guilty to persistent sexual abuse of a child under the age of 16.
“This is gross offending… The breaking of the virginity,” prosecutor Michael Hennessy told the court.
According to The Age, the relationship between the woman and her nephew began in 2011 shortly after the mother and daughter moved in with him after the breakdown of her marriage.
The rapes continued until 2014 when the girl was 15 and she told her older siblings what was happening.
“[It was] a gross violation of the relationship between a mother and her daughter,” the mother’s lawyer, Stephen Lindner, told the court.
The nephew was arrested in December 2014 after the daughter told her older siblings about the attacks.
The case has been adjourned until Friday.
