Meghan Markle And Prince Harry Are The First Royals In History To Hire An All-Female Senior Staff

And we are cheering!

Itโ€™s no secret that Meghan Markle is all for supporting women and womenโ€™s rights.

She was a U.N Women ambassador in her previous life (aka before she found her prince) and has spoken out about feminist issues, including the Timeโ€™s Up and Me Too movements, on numerous occasions.

And since joining the royal family, sheโ€™s been able to put her proud feminist beliefs to good use. Most recently, her and hubby Prince Harry (who Meghan says is a feminist too) have chosen to hire an all-female senior staff, making history in the process.

In addition to Heather Wong, their Assistant Private Secretary, and Sarah Latham, who is Head of Communications, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have just added Fiona Mcilwham to their top team, who will serve as Meghan and Harryโ€™s Private Secretary. The role is essentially chief of staff and is the most senior role in any royal household.

On the hiring of Mcilwham, who will be responsible for co-ordinating Meghan and Harryโ€™s official schedule, supervising the coupleโ€™s team of staff and managing correspondence, an insider told Express UK, โ€œHarry and Meghan have felt frustrated by the one-size-fits-all approach to being a working royal and are aiming their star far higher. It is clear they think Fiona is the person to do that.โ€

โ€œInternally, the hope is, as someone with enormous diplomatic experience, she will also understand that, whether you like it or not, there are limitations to being a royal for a very good reason.โ€

Mcilwham has worked for the Foreign Office for 21 years, and when she was appointed as diplomat to Albania in 2009, she became one of the youngest British ambassadors (she was 35 at the time).
