All The People Who Could Serve As Godparents To Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Baby

Baby Sussex has a long list to choose from

As the excitement around the arrival of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s first child mounts, the couple has continued to confirm small details. Including that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed a healthy baby boy at 5:26 am on May 6 and that he weighed in at 7lb 3oz.

But one question remains: who will serve as the child’s godparents? Prince William and Kate Middleton, who will already take on the role of Baby Sussex’s aunt and uncle, are unlikely to take the position. But if Harry and Meghan stick to tradition, the newborn will have five to eight godparents, and the people chosen will likely be a mix of old friends and relatives.

Here’s who we think might get the job.

Jessica and Ben Mulroney

The Mulroney’s are among the top picks for Baby Sussex’s godparents. Meghan’s best friend Jessica played an important role in her relationship with Harry from the very beginning, with the Mulroney’s reportedly hosting secret dinners in Toronto for the couple when they first started dating. Then, when they got engaged, Jessica served as Meghan’s “unofficial” wedding planner (while her children were bridal attendants). She even flew to Australia to help support Meghan on her first official royal tour, where the Duchess announced her pregnancy.

Benita Litt

If we’re to take any clues from Meghan and Harry’s wedding, another possible pick could be Meghan’s childhood friend Benita Litt. Meghan is godmother to Litt’s daughters Remi and Rylan, who adorably served as bridesmaids at the Royal Wedding.

Charlie Van Straubenzee

On Meghan’s birthday last year, just weeks after her own wedding, the royal newlyweds attended the wedding of Charlie van Straubenzee and Daisy Jenks. Van Straubenzee is one of Harry’s childhood friends, and given that his brother Thomas already serves as Princess Charlotte’s godfather, he’s a likely contender.

George and Amal Clooney

It’s no secret that the Clooney’s and Sussex’s have had a growing relationship in the last few months, with the royal couple travelling to Italy to stay at the Clooney’s Lake Como home. Rumour has it that the Hollywood couple have been tapped to serve as godparents to Harry and Meghan’s first child, and we wouldn’t be at all surprised.

Serena Williams

Meghan Markle and tennis champ Serena have been friends for years and it seems their relationship has only grown stronger in the last several years. “We were actually just texting each other this morning,” Williams said of Meghan on an Australian television program this past September. “We have known each other for a long time, but we really kind of are relying on each other a lot recently.”

Amanda Kline and Captain Mark William Galloway Dyer

Princes Charles’ former equerry, Captain Mark Dyer, served as Prince Harry’s mentor in the years following Princess Diana’s death. Dyer was one of the first people Meghan was introduced to and Harry already serves as godfather for Dyer’s son Jasper.

Jake Warren

Jake Warren, a royal family insider and one of Prince Harry’s closest friends, is a very likely pick for Baby Sussex’s godfather. Warren’s daughter Zalie was the youngest bridesmaid at Harry and Meghan’s wedding and is the goddaughter of Prince Harry. Jake himself was also the godson of Princess Diana.

Misha Nonoo

Misha is rumoured to be the one who originally set up Prince Harry and Meghan Marke’s blind date (but, the royal couple have always maintained they wish to keep her identity secret). Being close friends with both the Duke and Duchess, Misha is a strong contender for the role.

Tom Inskip

Tom Inskip is one of Prince Harry’s closest friends from Eton College. Inskip, or “skippy” as he’s affectionately known, became Harry’s “wingman” during his early 20s. Before Tom attended the royal wedding, Meghan joined Harry at Tom’s nuptials in Jamaica in March 2017.

Daniel Martin

An out-of-the-blue choice for the Royal couple came in the weeks leading up to Baby Sussex’s arrival when Meghan Markle’s makeup artist (who was responsible for her epic wedding day beauty look) travelled to Windsor to be by the Duchess’ side. Many believe Martin is in the running to be the baby’s godfather.
