Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s love story is that of fairytales and the ring the royal chose for his bride-to-be couldn’t be any more perfect. But it’s easy to forget, this isn’t the first engagement ring Meghan has ever received.
The gorgeous ring Harry chose is made from three main stones, the centre of which is a cushion-cut diamond from Botswana, a place “close to the hearts” of both Meghan and Harry and where they first holidayed together.
The huge centre-stone is flanked by two side-stones, both round-cut and taken from the personal collection of Harry’s late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales.
Set on a gold band, the ring was made by the Queen’s official court jeweller Cleave and Company, who consulted with Harry on the ring. The prince was involved in the entire design process.
Meghan’s first engagement ring was totally different: a princess-cut solitaire, set on a pair of thin platinum bands of diamonds.
We expect her first wedding, in 2011 to Trevor Engelson, won’t be anything like her second, either. Markle and Engelson wed barefoot on the beach in Jamaica, no castles or princes in sight.
