Meghan Markle Custom-Ordered A Pair Of Jeans From A Local Johannesburg Designer

Archie got a pair of dungarees, too

Meghan Markle has a history of wearing clothes by local designers whenever she visits another country. During her tour to Australia last year, she wore a pair of Outland Denim jeans from the Mount Tamborine, Queensland, profit-for-purpose company, and ever since, those exact same jeans are constantly sold out.

Currently in Johannesburg for her royal Southern Africa tour, Meghan has again opted to support a local denim label. While visiting various communities in the area, Meghan made a stop at Tshepo Jeans to pick up a pair of jeans she had pre-ordered before she left for Africa.

“About 4 weeks ago I got a call from the British embassy,” designer Tshepo Mohlala tweeted. “The Duchess of Sussex placed an order for a pair of jeans and today she came to collect them personally.”

He also organised a little something for baby Archie. “Suprised her with a pair of dungarees for Archie and the rest is history,” he said in his tweet.

Mohlala also reportedly explained to Meghan the special meaning behind his crown logo: “The crown on my jeans represents the three ladies who raised me. Enjoy wearing this crown.”

In addition to her little shopping trip, Meghan also visited Victoria Yards, which is a creative hub for artisans, musicians, and community members. The Duchess met with some of the locals, as well as the children and organisers behind a kids development program Timbuktu in the Valley.

Johannesburg artist James Delaney was among the group who met with Meghan, and told BAZAAR.com, “She was very friendly and everyone was excited to meet her and show her around. We’re all so happy she was able to come and see this amazing space.”
