Anyone who has planned a wedding knows the guest list can be one of the biggest sources of stress. Who to invite, who not to invite – and often who your parents want you to invite.
And while royal weddings are often an excuse for heads of state and dignitaries from around the world to come together, it seems Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are not interested in making their big day a political affair.
The couple have bucked tradition and are keeping their 600-guest wedding intimate, keeping the guest list only to people they have a direct relationship with.
This means we wont be seeing the likes of US President Donald Trump, British Prime Minister Teresa May or even former US President Barack Obama and wife Michelle there when Haz and Megs exchange vows on May 19 at Windsor Castle’s St George’s Chapel.
A Kensington Palace spokesman said: “It has been decided that an official list of political leaders – both UK and international – is not required for Prince Harry and Ms Markle’s wedding. Her Majesty’s government was consulted on this decision, which was taken by the royal household.”
Being third in line to the throne has to have some perks, because unlike Harry, big brother Wills’ 2011 wedding to Kate Middleton was attended by national and foreign dignitaries and heads of state.
Although let’s be honest we would probably invite Barack and Michelle if it was our wedding…
