Married at First Sight is getting huge backlash for the promotion of a 2018 contestant named Dean, who listed his sexist wishlist in a video posted overnight.
Nine posted the controversial clip on social media with a caption declaring that Dean “wants to be loved, honoured… and obeyed.” That’s right, obeyed.
In the introduction video, Dean says that men have lost control of their relationship in Australia and that his future partner needs to respect him “as the man.”
“It’s hard to say without sounding sexist or something, but I like a girl that is a girl and is girlie and knows that I’m the man and that I’m in charge,” Dean says.
“Also I want someone that listens to me and I want to be the alpha male and she needs to respect me as the man. I think that’s a traditional role that exits in other countries in the world, and Australia’s lost that,” he (stupidly) continues.
“A lot of guys are just afraid to be men now, and are getting whipped by their women. I don’t agree with that, and I don’t know why it’s happened.”
Channel Ten has already received major backlash for promoting Bachelorette contestant Blake Colman, even after charges of assault and allegations of domestic violence and revenge porn, and now Nine is giving air time to Dean, after all of the sexual harassment and assault allegations this year.
People were quick to react to the video, many saying they would boycott the show because of his inclusion.
