One guaranteed thing to catch the eyes of Academy Award voters is an epic transformation (think Charlize Theron in Monster or Natalie Portman in Black Swan).
Margot Robbie is on to Oscar gold with her incredible rural American accent, killer bangs and ice skating prowess in her new film, I, Tonya.
Robbie stars as Tonya Harding, the infamous Olympic ice-skater who rose to fame after her boyfriend hired someone to attack her biggest competitor, Nancy Kerrigan, before the 1994 Winter Games.
“My entire life I’ve been told I wouldn’t amount to anything,” Tonya narrates in the trailer. Boy were her critics wrong.
The darkly funny biopic also stars Allison Janney as Tonya’s foul-mouthed mum, plus Sebastian Stan and Bobby Cannavale.
With the film already receiving amazing reviews, the barely recognisable Robbie has, yet again, shown her amazing ability to ace any role she takes on.
The movie is set to be released in Australia mid-February next year, but in the meantime check out the trailer.
