Margot Robbie and Tom Ackerley tied the knot in an intimate Byron Bay ceremony in December 2016, though they didn’t enjoy a honeymoon until months later due to the I, Tonya filming schedule.
The actress has spoken about her romantic Tahitian honeymoon for the very first time in an interview on The Ellen Show, revealing the couple met several famous guests during their stay in a luxury resort, including the show’s host and former president Barack Obama.
“I’d rather hear your version” Ellen told Margot, prompting her to launch into the most cringe-worthy celebrity tale of all time.
Margot explained that the couple decided to head to the gym on their first day, due to the rain, but they were not expecting to run into other people.
“Tom puts on these shorts, his oldest gym shorts, and they’re tiny,” the actress said. “And they’re like really short and there’s nothing underneath so he gets on his bicycle to ride there and I’m like, ‘WHOA. Babe, you cannot wear those shorts. They’re like—you can see everything.’ And he’s like ‘C’mon. Who are we going to run into?’”
“We walk into the gym, and running on a treadmill is Ellen. On the treadmill next to her is her wife, Portia,” she continued. “Tom’s face has gone white. Then you were like ‘Have you met Obama?’ And standing next to them is former president Barack Obama.”
“I’m not kidding, I’m not kidding,” Margot told the gasping audience. “In a gym that is tiny! It was a very confined space, and we then had to do this whole, like, class, this stretching class and Tom meanwhile is trying to like, not reveal anything. And he’s dying and I’m crying so much, I’m about to crack a rib.”
