Australian pop star Kylie Minogue delivered a crowd-pleasing show at Glastonbury – where she was joined onstage by Chris Martin and Nick Cave – fourteen years after being forced to cancel a headlining performance following her breast cancer diagnosis.
Taking over the Pyramid Stage for the acclaimed Legends Slot, Kylie had to pause and start a song over again as she told the crowd how lucky she was to be there.
“In 2005 I was meant to be here,” the 51-year-old said. “Circumstances meant that I did not make it.”
“I wished things were different, but life is what it is. We are all together in this moment.
Back in 2005, Kylie watched the internationally renowned music festival from home. “Some of the artists covered some of my songs and that is the spirit and gracious nature of Glastonbury,” she said. Minogue then invited the Coldplay frontman to join her on stage for Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.
The Showbiz veteran delighted the huge crowd with a mix of old and newer hits, including Especially For You, Locomotion and Love At First Sight. Even featuring her early disco hits like I Should Be So Lucky and Better The Devil You Know.
At times the singer appeared visibly overwhelmed by the huge crowd at Worthy Farm, mouthing “oh wow.”
Clocking an impressive number of costume changes, Kylie opted for a look by up-and-coming label The Vampire’s Wife for her duet with Nick Cave – the pair have a moving rendition of Where the Wild Roses Grow.
But the serious interlude was brief in a show that featured a blast of rainbow Pride confetti, four costume changes, and mass singalongs from the sun-bathed capacity crowd, including for the Spinning Around finale.
