One of the many reasons we love The Good Place star Kristen Bell is for her candour, whether she’s speaking out about mental health or sharing her advice on how we can all get over Anna Faris and Chris Pratt’s breakup.
This time, Bell has gotten very real about breastfeeding—specifically, how her husband Dax Shepard helped her deal with a painful case of mastitis.
“I was in Atlanta. We couldn’t call a doctor, and this was right after the baby stopped nursing,” the actress explained on her new web series Momsplaining with guest Katie Lowes.
“So I said to my husband, ’I really need you to suck this out. We could talk about it, we could be weird about it, or you could just go ahead and nurse.”
Shepard agreed to help.
“He pulled it out,” Bell recounted. “He had a cup next to him. He was pulling out and spitting into this cup, and I’ve never been more in love. In my life.”
Mastitis is painful condition in which the breast tissues become inflamed and swollen, usually from a blocked milk duct, the Australian Breastfeeding Association explains.
During the Momsplaining episode, Bell also took the opportunity to share her experience of breastfeeding her children.
“It is a little bit strange to go from an autonomous woman to all of a sudden being a food truck,” the Frozen star joked, “’cause that’s essentially what you are”.
