Kirsten Dunst has had a stellar career, proving her acting chops in everything from Virgin Suicides to Bring It On, but even she isn’t immune to industry pressure to lose weight.
In a recent interview with Variety, the 35-year-old star reveals she was asked to lose weight for her role in upcoming thriller The Beguiled, but she flat-out refused – and got the role anyway.
Surprisingly, it was none other than director Sofia Coppola who requested she slim down.

The pair, who have been firm friends ever since Coppola cast Dunst in Virgin Suicides in 1998, were both present at the interview, with Coppola admitting she asked the controversial question.
“It’s so much harder when you’re 35 and hate working out,” Dunst said, going on to blame the film’s location – Louisiana – for making it too difficult to eat well. “I’m eating fried chicken and McDonalds before work, so I’m like, ‘we have no options! I’m sorry I can’t lose weight for this role.’”
Dunst also stars in the Rodarte sisters’ directorial debut, Woodshock, this year. Let it be known: women can still make amazing movies no matter what number’s on the scales.
