She started off by making jokes about the current political situation in the US with the upcoming election, which she believes has become something of a farce.

โ€œI would like to take this opportunity to personally apologise for the current political climate. I think that Veep has torn down the wall between comedy and politics,โ€ said Louis-Dreyfus. โ€œOur show started out as a political satire but now feels more like a sobering documentary.โ€

However on a more serious note, she teared up when she dedicated her win to her late father, who passed away on Friday.

โ€œIโ€™m so glad that he liked โ€˜Veepโ€™, because his opinion was the one that really mattered.โ€
